  • Thursday 2 October 2014 [6:00–6:30 pm]: Side event – Inauguration of the multimedia exhibition “Supporting Cultural Heritage through Conflict and Transition: Partnering with Afghanistan” (Salone dei Cinquecento)

The exhibition illustrates the concrete results of 50 years of tripartite partnership between the Government of Italy, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and UNESCO, in particular regarding four spectacular cultural heritage sites in Afghanistan, two of which are inscribed on the World Heritage List in Danger.

  • Friday 3 October 2014 [5:00-6:00 pm]: Round Table on “Safeguarding Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development and Peace Building: Success Stories of Italy-UNESCO Cooperation” (Salone dei Cinquecento)

Through the dialogue among representatives of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Republic of Mali, the Hachemite Kingdom of Jordan and major international experts having worked with UNESCO and the Italian Government, the Round Table intend to illustrate the concrete results and impact of longstanding cooperation in favor of Emergency interventions for the safeguarding of cultural heritage and the role of cultural heritage promotion in long-term economic development.
